The Camus Quartet’s passion is playing great music with great joy; its mission is to offer its professionalism, flexibility and spirit of fun and enthusiasm to your special day. Whether you’re craving Mozart, Thelonius Monk or Metallica, The Camus Quartet can provide your event with the soundtrack of your dreams.
Owner and Founder of the The Camus Quartet, Drew Nickles has been a part of the Arizona music scene for over fifteen years. In 1994, while pursuing degrees in Music and French at the University of Arizona, he studied with Richard Bock, Nancy Green, and Gordon Epperson. Eventually earning a position with Tucson Symphony Orchestra in 1998 as well as establishing his own ensemble, The Camus Quartet, Mr. Nickles set out to redefine the perception that classical music was too stiff and straight-laced by bringing in influences that include pop, rap, heavy metal and jazz. After his third year in the TSO, he was awarded fellowships to pursue masters degrees at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Choosing Illinois, Drew studied with Laurien Laufman, The Kronos Quartet, and The Pacifica Quartet. The summer of 2000, he was invited to teach and perform at the Huntington Music Festival in Vermont alongside professors from Oberlin, the Cleveland Conservatory of Music, and Northwestern. The following year, he won second place in the Reno Chamber Orchestra Concerto Competition for his performance of the Dvorak Cello Concerto in B Minor and received his master’s degree later that spring. In 2005 Mr. Nickles co-founded a piano trio, the Piazzolla da Camera, dedicated to performing the works of Argentine tango master Astor Piazzolla. | ![]() |
